IS/IT Leadership, Career Development, and Profession
This is a new track that supports the conference theme of ‘ICT and the 4th Industrial Revolution’, which increasingly demands a new/innovative paradigm, perspective, and framework looking at IS/IT leadership and profession. The track aims at fostering a forum for IS scholars engaging in a range of issues surrounding the practice of IT related research including IS/IT leadership, the IS/IT workforce, career development/training and issues surrounding the IS/IT profession. Specific objectives of the track are to allow all IS scholars and practitioners to share their research, develop the discourse between academia and practice, engage in exchange of perspectives, and encourage future collaborations. The track is sponsored by the AIS Special Interest Group on IS Leadership (SIGLEAD) in collaboration with the Society for Information Management (SIM). This track has been led by SIGLEAD and hosted at other signature AIS conferences such as AMCIS since 2003.


Though articles on IS/IT leadership and the IS/ IT profession abound in the practitioner press, much less attention has been devoted to the topic from an academic perspective. IS/IT professionals – whether leaders at the CIO level, IS project and line staff or external professional service providers – are the human dimension of the discipline and therefore issues surrounding IS/IT practice are of enduring concern to academics and practitioners alike. Mini-tracks may be sought to cover the range of track interests. Authors will be encouraged to submit both conceptual and empirical papers contributing to both research and practice that employ a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies covering topics such as:

Types of IS/IT leadership
Emerging issues to leaders and professionals (i.e. impact of cloud or big data on the profession)


In addition, the track welcomes research that address the issues above and emerging ones within the IS/IT workforce such as:
IS/IT talent management
IS/IT professionals' career streams
IS/IT professional development
IS/IT professionals' work/family balance
Ethical, societal, and legal issues related to managing IS/IT professionals
